Spicy · Peppery · Colourful
Radish Vulcano microgreens bring together bold flavour and striking natural colour. Their tender young leaves and richly coloured stems have the characteristic peppery bite of radish, making them a beautiful choice when you want both flavour and contrast on the plate.
Fast growing and full of personality, they work especially well as a fresh finishing green for savoury dishes.
Flavour
Peppery · Spicy · Fresh
Radish Vulcano has a pronounced radish flavour with a fresh, peppery heat. Its flavour is noticeably stronger than mild brassica varieties and can add character even when used in small amounts.
Growing Level
Easy
Radish Vulcano is a fast-growing, beginner-friendly microgreen that generally germinates readily and develops quickly.
Growing Time
Approximately 7–10 days
Radish microgreens grow relatively quickly. Temperature, light, airflow and moisture can influence development, so use their appearance and tenderness as your main guide when deciding when to harvest.
Soaking
No soaking required.
Radish Vulcano seeds can be sown directly onto a thoroughly moistened growing mat.
Germination
After sowing, keep the seeds covered and in darkness during the initial germination period.
Radish develops quickly and benefits from consistent moisture while germinating. Once the shoots are established, uncover the tray and move it into light.
Watering
Keep the growing mat consistently moist without allowing it to become waterlogged.
Once the roots are established, bottom watering is preferable. Add water to the reservoir tray below and allow the growing mat to absorb moisture from underneath.
Good airflow helps keep dense growth fresh and healthy.
Light
Once uncovered, place Radish Vulcano microgreens in a bright location with good indirect natural light or beneath a suitable grow light.
Adequate light encourages compact growth, healthy leaves and the development of their characteristic colouring.
When to Harvest
Radish Vulcano is generally ready to harvest when the stems are well developed and the cotyledons are fully open.
Harvest just above the growing mat using clean scissors or a clean, sharp blade.
Best With
Eggs · Avocado · Salads · Sandwiches · Bowls · Fish · Sushi · Meat
Its peppery flavour is particularly good with creamy or rich ingredients and can provide a fresh contrast to fish, avocado and sushi-style dishes.
Storage
For the best quality, harvest only what you need whenever possible.
If storing harvested microgreens, make sure they are dry before placing them in a clean container in the refrigerator. Excess moisture can shorten their freshness.
Wash before eating and enjoy while fresh.
Good to Know
Radish Vulcano belongs to the Brassica family and shares the naturally peppery character found in other radish varieties.
During germination, fine white root hairs can develop around the roots. These are a normal part of healthy root development and may sometimes be mistaken for mould.
