Radish Daikon
Everything you need to know about growing, harvesting and enjoying Radish Daikon microgreens at home.

Peppery · Crisp · Fresh
Radish Daikon is a fast-growing microgreen with fresh green leaves, crisp stems and a distinctive peppery flavour. Easy to grow and full of character, it is perfect when you want to add a little bite and freshness to a finished dish.
Its flavour is reminiscent of mature radish, but delivered through delicate young greens that are easy to sprinkle generously over everyday meals.
Flavour
Peppery · Fresh · Slightly spicy
Daikon microgreens have a recognisable radish flavour with a pleasant peppery finish. Their stronger taste makes them a lovely contrast to milder microgreens.
Growing Level
Easy
Fast and reliable, Daikon is an excellent variety for beginners as well as experienced growers.
Growing Time
Approximately 7–10 days
Growing conditions such as temperature, light, airflow and watering can influence development, so use the appearance of your microgreens as your main guide when deciding when to harvest.
Soaking
No soaking required.
Daikon seeds can be sown directly onto a thoroughly moistened growing mat.
Germination
After sowing, keep the seeds covered and in darkness during the initial germination period.
Once germination is well established and the young shoots begin to lift, uncover the tray and move it into light.
Watering
Keep the growing mat consistently moist without allowing it to become waterlogged.
Once the roots are established, bottom watering is preferable. Add water to the reservoir tray below and allow the growing mat to absorb moisture from underneath.
Good airflow and careful watering help maintain healthy growing conditions.
Light
Once uncovered, place your Daikon microgreens in a bright location with good indirect natural light or beneath a suitable grow light.
Adequate light encourages strong growth and helps the leaves develop their fresh green colour.
When to Harvest
Daikon microgreens are generally ready when the stems are well developed and the cotyledons are fully open and green.
Harvest just above the growing mat using clean scissors or a clean, sharp blade.
Best With
Eggs · Avocado · Salads · Sandwiches · Bowls · Fish · Sushi · Asian-inspired dishes
Daikon is especially good as a finishing green. Its peppery flavour can bring freshness and contrast to creamy, rich or mild foods.
Storage
For the best quality, harvest only what you need whenever possible.
If storing harvested microgreens, make sure they are dry before placing them in a clean container in the refrigerator. Excess moisture can shorten their freshness.
Wash before eating and enjoy while fresh.
Good to Know
Daikon belongs to the Brassica family and is naturally quick to germinate and grow.
As with broccoli, fine white root hairs can appear around the roots during germination. These are a normal part of healthy root development and should not automatically be mistaken for mould.
Why Grow Daikon?
Daikon is a wonderful choice when you want something with a little more personality. It grows quickly, brings beautiful fresh green colour to the tray and adds an unmistakable peppery bite to food.
A small handful can completely change a simple plate — adding freshness, texture and just enough heat.
Grow it. Cut it fresh. Add a little bite.
